Albrechtice v Jizerských horách
Village founded in 1670 and named after the estate’s owner, Albrecht Desfours. Summer and winter sports resort with a number of guesthouses. Single-nave Church of St. Francis of Paola from 1779 – 1784. Link: www.albrechtice-jh.cz
Bramberk
Also called Krásný (797 m). On the summit there is a stone viewpoint dating from 1912.
Buková hora
A wooded peak (836 m) above Jiřetín p. B. The second largest basalt outcrop in the Jizerské Mountains. Basalt was mined in the quarry below the summit. Almost at the top there is a small cave formed by granite boulders, known as the Devil’s Chamber.
Černá Studnice
The highest peak on the Černá Studnice ridge (869 m). On the summit there is a stone viewpoint dating from 1905.
Jablonec nad Nisou
District centre. First mentioned in 1356. Range of cultural and historical landmarks. Glassmaking, engineering and woodworking industry. Link: www.mestojablonec.cz
Josefův Důl
Village (580 m) founded in 1701 and named after the son of the state’s owner, Karel Josef Desfours. Old glassmaking tradition. Single-nave pseudo gothic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord dating from 1862 – 1865. Link: www.josefuvdul.cz
Královka
The highest point on the Maxovský ridge (859 m). On the summit there is a stone viewpoint dating from the year 1907.
Kristiánov
Founded in 1775 as a glassworking settlement. In 1887 the glassworks burned down and in 1938 so did the mansion house. Today it is a memorial to the glass industry with a museum in the former glassworks inn. Open from June to October. Link: www.msb-jablonec.cz
Mariánská Hora
Lapidary settlement (710 m) founded in 1701 and named after the second wife of the estate’s owner, Count Desfours.
Mariánskohorské Boudy
Settlement (843 m) founded after the fashion of the Krkonoše mountain chalets of the year 1705.
Maxov
Originally a pastoral, glassmaking and lapidary village founded in 1670. It is divided into two parts: Horní (Upper) and Dolní (Lower) Maxov. In Horní Maxov there is the pseudo-gothic single-nave Church of the Most Sacred Heart of our Lord, dating from 1910.
Muchov
A distinctive hill (787 m) in the eastern part of the Černostudniční Ridge. The rock lookout point offers a beautiful view. It is allegedly named after the giant Muha, who lived here according to the legends.
Nová Louka
This solitary chalet was built in 1630. In 1756 – 1817 a glass smelting works. A major meeting point of footpaths. The former hunting chateau is named after Chancellor Šámal.
Protržená přehrada (Breached dam)
Engineering monument on the Bílá Desná stream. The remains of the dam commemorate the tragedy of 1916.
Slovanka
Wooded hill in Maxov Ridge (820 m). There is an iron viewpoint on the summit – purchased in 1887 at the exhibition in Vienna. Open again after reconstruction.
Smržovka
The first written record of the town dates from 1568. Glassmaking industry. Single-nave Baroque Church of the Archangel Michael from 1766 – 1781. Link: www.smrzovka.cz
Špičák
Tanvaldský Špičák (808 m) is a prominent hill above the Tanwald basin. On the summit there is a stone viewpoint dating from 1909 which offers a lovely view over the countryside. Major winter sports resort. Offers various categories of ski-slopes, including several chairlifts.
Tanvald
Founded before 1618. Textile and electrotechnical industry. In Horní Tanvald there is the Rococo Church of St. Peter and Paul from the years 1787 – 1789, converted into the New Renaissance style a hundred years later. Sports tourism centre. Link: www.tanvald.cz
Terezínka
Viewpoint rock (623 m) in the eastern part of the Černostudniční Ridge. Named after the wife of the factory owner Mayer, who had the path from Tanvald to the summit renovated.
Smržovka viaduct
Stone railway viaduct with nine arches, completed in 1894 and included in the list of national engineering monuments.
Kamenice hydro-electric plant
The largest valley reservoir in the Jizerské Mountains, built in the years 1976 – 1982.
Two earthen dams 44 m high hold 23 million cubic metres of water. An underground adit carries water to the drinking-water treatment plant in Bedřichov, from where the water is carried via another underground tunnel to Liberec.
Waterfalls on Jedlová stream
The left-hand tributary of Kamenice stream, into which it flows in Josefův Důl. It rises in the „Na čihadle“ peat bog and forms beautiful waterfalls above Josefův Důl.
